Some of the most meaningful things people own are not flat: medals, a first pair of shoes, a watch, a wedding textile, a pen, a collection. A shadow box turns them into a display.
What a shadow box is
A frame with enough depth between the backing and the glazing to hold an object without pressing on it. Depth is chosen to suit the deepest item.
Mounting without damage
Objects are held with discreet supports, stitching or custom mounts — never glued. Everything stays removable and unmarked.
Designing the layout
- Single object: centred with generous space for a museum feel.
- Collections: arranged on a grid or composition, with labels or an engraved plate.
- Story pieces: an object with a photograph, ticket or letter that explains it.
Backgrounds and glazing
Linen, suede and coloured fabric backings set the tone; UV-filtering glazing protects textiles and printed items from fading.
Corporate uses
Shadow boxes also work for companies — first products, ground-breaking shovels, commemorative items and awards displayed in reception or boardrooms.
