Calligraphy and Islamic art are among the most requested and most personal pieces we frame — from contemporary calligraphic canvases to family heirlooms and gifted verses.
Respect the composition
Calligraphy is built on proportion and balance. The mount and frame should give the composition room to breathe — generous margins, often slightly wider at the bottom, and a frame profile that supports rather than competes.
Protect inks, pigments and gold
Traditional inks, natural pigments and gold leaf are sensitive to light and handling. UV-filtering or museum glass slows fading, and spacers keep the surface from touching the glazing.
Handle delicate papers properly
Handmade and older papers should be hinged with archival materials and never glued or dry-mounted. Conservation mounts and backing keep acids away from the work.
Choose a presentation
- Classical and illuminated works: gilded or finely carved frames with a double mount in a colour drawn from the illumination.
- Contemporary calligraphy on canvas: a floater frame or slim profile for a modern gallery look.
- Sacred texts and verses: a dignified, restrained frame and placement at an appropriate height.
Bring the piece to our showroom and we will compare mount colours and profiles against it before deciding.
